02801 Medium Stockman Pocket Knife

W. R. Case & Sons handcrafts all of its knives to ensure that they are made with superior materials and processes to live up to the Case name. The company has been a leader in knife manufacturing for over 100 years. They went from selling cutlery out of the back of a wagon in the 1800s to manufacturing knives carried by U. S. soldiers in World War II to making the knives used by astronauts on the Apollo mission.

The Case Stockman pocket knife has a length of 6.19 inches and a weight of 2.40 ounces. The blades are made of Tru-Sharp stainless steel like many of the Case knives. The knife features three blades; the spey, sheepfoot and clip. With three blades, there’s not much that the Case Medium Stockman Knife can’t do.

This knife is meant to be an EDC knife for performing common cutting tasks like opening mail, cutting string or twine on packages and other small to medium tasks. The three blades in one give the knife some versatility that can’t be found on another blades with only one blade.

The Blades

The clip blade on the Case Medium Stockman is 2.5 inches long so it’s under the limits of the law in most areas of the country. This is important to consider when purchasing a knife. The clip blade has a nail nick to open with knife. The tang of the blade has the Case logo letting consumers know this is a genuine Case knife manufactured with their quality control processes.

The sheepsfoot and spey blades are the same length at approximately 1 3/4 inches. The blades are shaped to have a straight-edge cutting blade without a sharp point, which could injure if not used carefully. The curved end doesn’t allow punctures or cutting small holes, but it’s perfect for other tasks like stripping wires, cutting boxes and opening envelopes.

The blades are made of Tru-Sharp stainless steel. Case uses a high-carbon steel that resists corrosion and is meant to last compared to regular steel. The blade of a knife with Tru-Sharp steel will hold an edge longer than traditional steel.

The Handle

The handle of the Case Stockman is blue bone with a pattern that Case calls corn cob jigged. When closed, the handle is 3.56″ long, so it fits in most hands beautifully. It’s curved for comfort and style. Most Case knives have a distinctive swerve to the handle.

Each end of the handle is encased with a nickel silver bolster that’s shiny and gives the folding knife a stunning appearance. Rivets attach the brass liner to the handle itself. There’s no space between the liner and the bone handle to worry about because Case manufactures all knives by hand.

On the handle of the Case Stockman is a shiny emblem with the Case name stamped on it. Each knife has an emblem, but the Case Stockman’s emblem has a unique chevron shape that isn’t seen in many of Case’s knives.

The Pros

  • Small enough to fit in a front pocket for every day carry.
  • The knife has three blades so it can perform almost any task.
  • The Stockman is made with quality that customers have come to expect from Case knives.
  • There’s a lifetime warranty on all Case knives.

The Cons

  • In some of the knives, the spey and sheepsfoot blade can rub against each other.

Insider Tip

As in all Case knives, the tang displays the Case logo, but a fun fact is that when the knife was manufactured is apparent in the logo. Case has used over 44 different typography on the logos they stamp on the blade. If you run across a Case blade, you can find out how old it is by the logo stamped on it.

So What’s the Verdict on the Medium Stockman Pocket Knife?

The Case Stockman with the blue bone handle and three different blades is a beautiful knife that can be carried every single day without needing another knife. While it may be called a gentleman’s knife, it can outperform many other utility knives because of the variety of blades. It’s a great gift to give the special man in your life whether it’s your husband, brother, father or son.
